Elderly Dog Recovers From Ailments

While Trevor had been attending to our pony Buster, I was talking to Brigitte about our dog Miffy. She had been seriously ill for some time (she’s getting on in years now), and although our vet has been seeing her about various issues for the last year, she still appeared to be going downhill. She had been struggling to go to the loo, and she had a sore back.

Our vet had said that he could operate to see what was really causing the problems, but he did think it would make much of a difference. We had all really put Miffy’s problems down to her time of life.

During the few days prior to Trevor’s visit, Miffy had deteriorated rapidly, and although my husband and I were concerned about her quality of life, and didn’t wish to make her drag out a painful existence and we hadn’t been able to make any decisions as to what to do.

Trevor said he would have a look at her. He sat on the floor and started to stroke her, his hand finally coming to rest on her back, above her pelvic area. He was talking in a whisper to her and she seemed to be enjoying the whole experience. After about ten minutes he stopped what he was doing and asked if he could use the bathroom. We pointed him in the right direction. When he had left the room Miffy got up from where she had been lying, showed us she wanted to go out to the garden, and then promptly started to pee for what seemed an eternity!

We have no idea as to what actually happened during Trevor’s visit, other than what I have just stated, but since then, Miffy has chased our neighbour’s cat and a little spring has returned to her step. We have so far enjoyed another five months with her that we weren’t sure we would have.

I am grateful to Trevor for his help and advice with another important member of our family.
